Leading Insurer, Building a Future-Ready Procurement Function

Client Organisation

The client is one of Australia’s major life insurers, employing over 1,000 people and generating more than AU $400 million in annual revenue. It provides superannuation, insurance, and investment solutions nationwide. At the time of engagement, the organisation was undergoing significant business transformation and required procurement maturity to support operational resilience, technology adoption, and future growth.

Project Overview

Following the sudden departure of the General Manager of IT Sourcing & Procurement, the organisation required immediate leadership to stabilise procurement activity. Key priorities included designing a new procurement strategy, establishing consistent processes, and preparing a handover for the newly appointed GM. Sedha was engaged to refine the vendor-management framework, lead a critical RFP for data services, and provide additional input into the insurer’s cloud strategy. The assignment spanned transformation, technology delivery, and operational improvement, ensuring procurement capabilities were not only maintained but enhanced during the leadership transition.

Sedha's Role

Sedha Consulting deployed an experienced resource to lead the engagement over an 18-month period. Activities included:

  • Procurement Strategy and Process Design: Establishing end-to-end workflows, roles, and governance mechanisms.

  • Vendor Management Framework: Introducing oversight, accountability, and performance metrics to strengthen supplier relationships.

  • RFP Leadership: Designing and managing a competitive RFP for data services to deliver cost savings and strategic vendor alignment.

  • Capability Tools and Organisational Design: Delivering templates, policies, and a new organisational structure to support the incoming GM.

  • Sedha’s structured, consultative approach brought together IT, Finance, Legal, and business stakeholders, fostering alignment and continuity across functions.

Results

The client received a complete procurement transformation toolkit, including strategy documents, process maps, templates, and a refreshed vendor-management framework. Outcomes included:
